Frosh-Soph Shoots Into Action
Many students join a sport when they get back to school. One of those sports is
basketball. After about two months of school, there are currently 15 frosh-soph players practicing for the basketball team.
The current coach for frosh-soph is Eric Gonzales, also known as Coach Eric. There are some players who are excited to play their favorite sport. One of the freshman players, Juan Garcia said, “I feel very excited.” There is currently no team captain, according to Coach Tapscott.
The basketball team practices at the gym or outside, from Monday through Friday at 3:30 p.m.
to 5:30 p.m., according to a freshman in the Justice & Law small school, Daniel Aguilar. “If it’s hot we practice in the gym; when there is volleyball, we practice outside.” “Practice starts at 3:30 p.m. and ends at five, and sometimes 5:30 p.m.” Students also find the training conditions helpful, and help them get better according to Garcia. He said, “Not really. It helps our condition, and to get better.” A freshman in the Technology & Media Magnet small school, Ivan Martinez said, “Some of the stretches are hard, and its hard to remember where we are supposed to be when we pass the ball.”
Gonzales also said that the team has games every Saturday and that it is a good team. “In the fall there are games every Saturday, the actual season doesn’t start until November, after Thanksgiving.” He also said, “I believe so, it should be a great team.” The team feels proud of themselves and excited for being able to play their favorite sport.
