Cesar’s Change

By Salvador Gomez

At a young age Cesar’s parents split. It was a big emotional wound at his age. With a few years and support from his friends and family, Cesar and his four younger siblings survived the hard times that they experienced in an early chapter of their life.

Cesar Donlucas is currently a freshman in the Business & Innovation small school. He lives with his dad, named Cesar, and his siblings Priscilla, Aracely, Adrianne and Adrian. After his parents split he felt depressed. He said,” I really felt bad at first, but years later I got used to it after a few years of sadness.” Since then Cesar has devoted himself to do his best at school and try to live a stress less life. Donlucas said, “I try to do the best I can in different activities; I am also trying to get straight A’s and not get angry or frustrated in order to make my family proud.” Donlucas wants to get along with everyone he can. He wants to be trusted and will always support his friends.

Donlucas enjoys exercising and is currently in Students Run LA. He said, “ I like running and football. This is my second year in SRLA. I am aiming to get a better time, and I want to join football next year.” Cesar believes that the struggle after someone’s parents split is real, but that does not mean that it is the end of the world. Cesar’s wants to demonstrate that no one should ever give up no matter what life throws at them.

Settle It In Smash!

Get ready for the newest smashing game of the year! Settle it in smash with the all-new Super Smash Bros. for Wii U with a cast of over 40 iconic characters in the history of Nintendo games.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is a unique fighting game unlike any other. Instead of beating opponents until they are KO’d, in Super Smash Bros. players have to increase the other fighter’s percentage and try to blast them off the screen. Anthony Frias, freshmen in Law & Justice said, “The roster in this game is amazing! Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3ds made my dreams come true because now I can make Mario, Sonic, Pac-man, and Mega Man battle at the same time! It’s so beautiful.” Super Smash Bros. for Wii U has a huge cast of characters, including veteran fighters like Mario, Link and Pikachu. There are many new fighters like Little Mac, Villager, Duck Hunt and more! There are also new exclusive 3rd party fighters such as Sonic the Fastest Thing Alive, Pac-man the Yellow Bane of Ghost, and Mega Man the Blue Bomber.

The main mode in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is Smash, which has been available in every installment of the franchise since the beginning. Esai Morales, a freshman in Health, Science, and Environment small school said, “ I have played each game in the Super Smash Bros. franchise, which include the original Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 64, Melee for the GameCube, Brawl for Wii, and of course the 3DS and Wii U versions, and they are all awesome!”

After selecting Smash, players have the options to have a regular Smash, an 8-Player Smash, or Special Smash. Regular Smash sends players straight to the character select menu, up to four players can play. Players are given the option to use customized characters, play in teams, and have a timed, stock or coin battle and many more rules. 8-Player Smash is the same as Regular Smash, but now you can play with five or more players, however the more players there are, less stages are available.

Finally, there is Special Smash is the most customizable of all, players can change the game’s speed, gravity, the stamina matches, change the size of characters, and more. There are many controller options for this game, including the Wii U Gamepad, Wii remote, Nunchuck, Classic controller, Wii U Pro controller, GameCube controller and even the Nintendo 3DS, 3DSXL, or 2DS systems can be used.

The Super Smash Bros. franchise has had online multiplayer since Super Smash Bros. Brawl, its back and it’s greater than ever, Jessy Gayosso a freshmen in Justice & Law said, “ The online is amazing in this game, there is rarely lag and you can spectate, play with friends or anyone around the world.” Playing online usually never lags and players can play for Glory which is a battle with no items, on Final Destination, a completely flat stage with no stage hazards. Or players can play for Fun, in which the stage is chosen at random and items are on. There are also various challenges and collectables such as over 700 trophies, music and a few demos of games called Masterpieces. There is a mode called Trophy Rush, this is the easiest way to help collect all the trophies. Frias said, “All these modes are amazing because they help you unlock trophies that look gorgeous and very detailed, and I like reading the trivia for each of the trophies.” Players can also freely make their own stages in Stage Builder by using the stylus from the Wii U Gamepad. Players can also customize the characters, make Mii Fighters, connect Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, and use Amiibo. Amiibo are collectable figurines that players can buy separately for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. There are currently 12 amiibos, but there will soon be one for every fighter in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/ Wii U, they can be trained up to level 50 while normal CPUs can only go up to level 9. Amiibo are also compatible with other games such as, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart 8 and more to come! Each Amiibo cost $12.99 and are not necessary to play these games.

There are also many modes including the Wii U exclusive Smash Tour, which is a board game that cannot be described in words, due to all the chaos happening at the same time. Morales said, “ Smash Tour is really hard to explain, it is a board game, but everything else is random! You can’t see anything coming at all! It is a really good mode to play with friends and family.” Classic is a mode in which players go through a series of battles, so that you can confront Master Hand and Crazy Hand and the all new Master Core, a swarm made of dark energy that has many different forms. There is also All-Star mode, in which players fight all the characters in the game, from newest to oldest. Gayosso said, “This game is really challenging, the challenges in this game are extremely hard compared to the previous games, but I felt really satisfied after finally beating a challenge that I have been stuck on for a while because I am rewarded with a new character or trophies.” There are many more modes that can also be played in co-op.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is a unique and fantastic game. It looks gorgeous at 1080p and runs at 60 frames per second without lag. This game also has a ton of content and a bunch of replay value, and never gets old. There is no doubt that the greatest Super Smash Bros. game is here! Super Smash Bros. for Wii U gets a 10/10.

America’s Recycle Day

Every year, the United States of America generates about 220 million tons of garbage. America’s Recycle day is here to get rid of some waste and help make America a cleaner place to live.
America’s Recycle day is an event that takes place in the U.S. on November 15. It encourages people in America to help clean up and recycle. But, not many people know about America’s Recycle day. However, the people who do know about it, believe that it is a great idea. Rosa Romo, a freshman in the Tech & Media Magnet said, “It is a great way to help the community and the environment by picking up harmful trash that harms the world.”

Many people do not know where the recycled trash goes. Cesar Donlucas, a freshman in the Business & Innovation small school said, “Doesn’t the trash just go into the dump and gets incinerated?” Many people believe that trash is just incinerated and that’s it. The truth is that after the trash is incinerated, it is shipped to other places around the world and is used as landfill. If people were to go to a landfill, they probably would not know about the trash by looking at it since it is covered by patches of grass.

Many people recycle, and it’s usually just for money. Some students believe that people should not get paid for recycling, but it is a good idea because it gives people a reason to recycle. Jessy Gayosso, a freshman in the Justice & Law small school said, “ It is good, but it is also bad because people just do it for the money, not their health.” Littering has led to a massive pollution that does not just affect nature, but humans as well. If people keep littering the world will soon be consumed by it’s own garbage. America’s Recycle day is here to inspire people to clean it all up.

Minecraft Still Holds Up

Do not judge a game by its graphics, but it’s gameplay. When players play with their friends, anything is possible. From working together to trolling each other, Minecraft multiplayer takes it to the next level.

Many people play Minecraft every day; however, playing Minecraft alone could get boring. That is why many players play with others. Victor Robles, a freshmen in Tech & Media Magnet academy said, “I always have to play with others.” Playing with friends lets players have a better time or a worst time. In some versions of Minecraft, players can connect to different servers around the world. Luis Vargas, a freshmen in Tech & Media Magnet academy said, “It’s amazing on the computer version! There are many servers and endless fun!”

Players can play Minecraft locally or online. So far, the computer version is the most updated version and has better servers than the other versions. Vargas said that he usually plays the computer version instead of the console versions because the console versions lag, when people use something online with a bad internet connection it makes what they are doing take a longer time to load a lot.

Despite the lag, players can still play Minecraft with friends at a good frame rate. When players play online they can talk with their friends by using a headset, and they can interact with each other and the environment or they could troll. Trolling is when someone keeps doing things aimed to upset someone so they get an angry response. Robles said, “It’s really good and enhances gameplay; it also makes building stuff faster, lag is rare after it goes away.”

When players play Minecraft locally on consoles, their screen is split depending on the number of players, so that they can share it with their friends. Robles said, “the split screen feels kind of cramped, but it’s still good.” He also said that when playing Minecraft locally there is usually never lag.

Minecraft is a very popular game that is enjoyed to this day, especially when players play with friends. It doesn’t matter if players play locally or online the game still has good frame rate and not much lag which makes this game enjoyable, although its graphics look really old.
